Magico Safrano by New Notes – This saffron has an inherent magic

New Notes is treating us to an olfactory treasure from the oriental-spicy fragrance family for the New Year: Magico Safrano. The extrait de parfum is dedicated entirely to the precious spice saffron, which the Italian niche fragrance house pairs with sacred woods, among other things. Of course, I immediately think of Palo Santo, but am I right?

New Notes in the Duft-Tagebuch

The New Notes brand with its unconventional, provocative and beautifully composed fragrances has been present on this blog for a long time and so a few posts have accumulated over the last few years. For all those who would like to read up a little and get to know the label and its previous creations better, I have added all previously published articles below:

Magico Safrano – Magical saffron

With Magico Safrano, New Notes is launching a fragrance that is perfect for the current cold season. The color alone warms my heart. A pleasant orange-brown, a shade of amber that is reminiscent of golden whisky and has an enveloping and cozy effect. The color fits perfectly with the theme of woods and saffron, it looks noble, elegant and graceful. And this is exactly how the Italian brand describes it: “A fragrance full of warmth, richness and cultural depth. Magico Safrano envelops the wearer in a golden aura of spices and wood – soothing and mysterious at the same time.”

Saffron is an exceptional raw material, both botanically and olfactorically. It is obtained from the stigmas of the saffron crocus (Crocus sativus), a triploid, sterile plant that does not form seeds and reproduces exclusively via tubers. Each flower bears exactly three red stigmas, which have to be harvested by hand during a short flowering period. This high labor input explains its special status.

Olfactorily, saffron is complex and multi-layered: dry and warm, with slightly metallic, leathery and subtly bitter nuances. Safranal and related carotenoids are primarily responsible for this, with an aromatic effect that alternates between spicy, resinous and subtly bitter.

New Notes combines the spice saffron with cinnamon, mandarin, pink pepper, nutmeg, lily of the valley, labdanum (cistus), benzoin resin, tobacco, woods, sandalwood, eaglewood (oud), leather, moss, ambergris, musk and tonka bean. So the palo santo I suspected is not in it, the brand relies on other woods.

What does Magico Safrano from New Notes smell like?

The finest saffron, spicy cinnamon and sparkling hot pink pepper combine in the opening of Magico Safrano with the tangy fruity tartness of mandarin orange, which lends lightness to the spices. Bright, floral lily of the valley brings soft, creamy notes to the fragrance, while labdanum adds sweet, smoky accents and tobacco bathes the creation in lush gold. The woods can already be perceived subliminally: dry, reminiscent of fine oak barrels, subtly liqueur-like. Crystalline musk immerses the composition in an enveloping powderiness that seems almost tender. Ambry, delicately leathery and warm accents are added before Magico Safrano finally fades away gently and sensually with wonderful, woody-spicy nuances.

When is the best time to wear Magico Safrano?

The extrait de parfum by New Notes exudes a cozy, delicious and enchantingly beautiful atmosphere and is ideal for anyone who prefers oriental-inspired, spicy-woody creations. Perfect for the cooler season and – thanks to its medium presence and excellent longevity – wearable for any occasion in my opinion. I can also see the fragrance in the office and everyday life. A really great, balanced and overall very harmonious composition that is sure to find many fans.
