BIBBI Perfume - The Other Room

The Other Room – Invitation to a masked ball

Perfumer Jérôme Epinette, who was also responsible for the brand’s other fragrances, was asked to create The Other Room, a creation that revolves around a Parisian masked ball at which things were … well, let’s say … apparently quite frank. Although the press release gives some hints, the majority of the experiences are left to our imagination. It also remains unclear whether this masked ball really took place or whether it was based on a meditation session by Stina Bibbi Seger. We remember that the collection is inspired by Stina’s meditative experiences.

I once attended an exclusive masked ball in Paris. All formalities were suspended for a few hours. The rich and famous (and infamous) danced, flirted and arranged dates until dawn. Social hierarchy and gender rules have been erased and forgotten. Everyone was in the here and now, disguised as whoever they wanted to be.

While much remains unspoken, the fragrance notes are no secret. Ginger, blackcurrant, lime, clove, davana, saffron, patchouli, vetiver and labdanum (cistus) are the ingredients of this eau de parfum with a possibly lascivious and slightly disreputable background.

The Other Room is a sumptuous blend of sweet, liqueur-like davana and dark, leathery saffron, accompanied by fruity, tangy facets. Ginger brings a little spiciness to the composition and at the same time emphasizes the citrusy accents of the lime, while the clove provides herbaceous nuances. Patchouli and vetiver lend the fragrance earthy and woody-cool notes that give the creation depth and volume. The smoky sweetness of cistus skilfully rounds off the composition.

At the beginning, The Other Room surprised me, because I would not have expected the opulence of davana and saffron on the one hand and fruity, citrusy nuances on the other. If the opening seems a little unconventional, I recommend you be patient. Because The Other Room gradually develops into a round and very harmonious, warm fragrance that is creamy-powdery, gently spicy, transparent-bright and beautiful. 💙

Ghost of Tom – Spirited tea

I mentioned in my Radio Child post that I’m not a big fan of paranormal phenomena, be it in stories, movies or otherwise. The name Ghost of Tom already suggests that this may be exactly the subject. The mere mention of ghosts makes me shudder inside. I was terrified of them as a child, and movies like The Sixth Sense – btw now 25 years old (!) – have not done any better. And now Ghost of Tom, about which the press release states: “In some circles, it is believed that around 2% of the world’s population is made up of invisible beings living among us. Unfortunately, they are invisible to non-elect humans because they are made of matter that is not of this world. The only way to perceive their presence is through their addictive, smoky tea scent. This is why they are commonly known as the Ghost of Tom.” Jérôme Epinette used the following ingredients for the eau de parfum Bergamot, mate, blackcurrant, black tea, violet leaves, birch, ambergris and papyrus.

Fortunately, all my worries and fears about Ghost of Tom were completely unnecessary. The fragrance is absolutely not spooky, but rather really, really beautiful! I like to get involved with these spirits, I would almost say. Greenish-tart tea nuances, accompanied by tangy bergamot freshness and dark sweet currants, define the creation. Initially reminiscent of black Earl Grey tea, the fragrance gradually changes. The mate provides greenish water nuances that lend the composition meditative and Asian-inspired facets. The violet leaves and papyrus provide herbaceous, powdery and subtly smoky accents, while lovely, warm ambergris ensures depth and persistence. Great!

Ghost of Tom is light, transparent and comforting, enveloping, relaxed and beautiful. A tea fragrance through and through that seems to alternate between black and green tea, nuanced throughout by fruity, sweet and smoky accords. Absolutely suitable for everyday wear and the office, this unisex creation is a perfect all-rounder for every occasion and every season. If you love tea fragrances, you should definitely keep this eau de parfum in mind and put it at the top of your must-try list. 💙
