Prends-moi (take me) by Isabey – Feminine fragrance with iris, cocoa and amber [+ giveaway]

Prends-moi (take me) by Isabey is not exactly a new fragrance, but the eau de parfum has recently become available in a handy and totally sweet 20 ml version and has not yet been presented on the blog. So it’s high time to present this creation to you, which is based on a composition from the 1930s.

A look back: Isabey

Isabey was founded in Paris in the 1920s – a time of upheaval, cultural prosperity and new social freedoms. Between jazz, art and an avant-garde attitude to life, numerous perfume houses emerged, capturing the spirit of the times with opulent, elegant compositions. Alongside Jovoy and Cherigan, Isabey was also one of these young, ambitious brands.

The house was founded by a member of the Rothschild family. The name refers to the miniature painter Jean-Baptiste Isabey, a reminiscence of French art and style history. In 1925, the brand presented itself with several luxurious fragrances at the Paris World Exhibition – lavishly designed, with high-quality staging and great success.

Like many houses from this era, Isabey largely disappeared from the scene after the Second World War. It was not until the turn of the millennium that the brand was revived by Panouge. Historical formulas were reworked, classics carefully reformulated and placed in a contemporary context.

Prends-moi (take me)

In the 1930s, the fragrance house Isabey launched a perfume with the name Prends-moi (take me). However, a mistake crept onto the label, which is why the fragrance was eventually sold as “Prends-mois (take me)” in the USA. It is not known how many buyers actually noticed this spelling mistake. The eau de parfum, which was available in a rather plain and simple glass bottle like the playful bottles of the 1920s, had a name that was surprisingly blunt for the time. “Prends-moi (take me)” left little room for interpretation and may well have raised eyebrows in the perfume context of the 1930s.

Today, we are much less reserved. Between “Fucking Fabulous”, “Putain des Palaces” and “Secretions Magnifiques”, the fragrance vocabulary has audibly shifted. Provocation has long been part of the brand strategy. Visuals have also become more offensive: While House of Fanatics works with erotic flacon designs reminiscent of sex toys, Filippo Sorcinelli relies on clearly phallic shapes in individual editions. The use of eroticism has become noticeably more open in the world of perfume.

But back to Prends-moi (take me) by Isabey. Launched in 2020, the fragrance was created by Italian perfumer Luca Maffei, who combined the ingredients bergamot, pink pepper, raspberry, rose, tuberose, cardamom, iris, cocoa, sandalwood and ambergris.

Testing Prends-moi (take me) by Isabey

Prends-moi (take me) opens spicy and fruity and is carried by a soft, smooth creaminess right from the start. Tart raspberry and fresh bergamot lend bright nuances to the opening, which quickly meet powdery, lipsticky, delicately earthy iris. Dark cocoa gently adds depth, while creamy, airy flowers round off the overall picture. In the base, sandalwood and ambergris provide a balsamic warmth that blends harmoniously with the blend of iris, cocoa, berries and flowers.

Prends-moi (take me) by Isabey is elegant, sensual and seductive. Not a femme fatale in fragrance form, but a cuddly, cultivated feel-good fragrance with a beautiful radiance. Rather feminine and wearable all year round, the eau de parfum is aimed at anyone who appreciates subtle lipstick nuances and a soft, creamy iris. A modern interpretation with a touch of vintage, Prends-moi combines past and present in a very harmonious way.
