Cuir de Pastèque and Menthe Enivrante by Mezel Paris – summer between melon and mint tea

Fruity and minty, we continue with Cuir de Pastèque and Menthe Enivrante by Mezel Paris. Having already introduced you to the brand and three of its creations in my last two posts – Mezel Paris – The magic of the beginning and Datte Opaline and Néroli Cuivré by Mezel Paris – Neroli between sweetness and metal – I will now focus on two further facets of the collection.

Cuir de Pastèque – Watermelon water

Perfumer Mathilde Bijaoui, who had already absolutely thrilled me with Néroli Cuivré, was also at work creatively on Cuir de Pastèque. At first, I couldn’t make much sense of the name of the eau de parfum – I really should brush up on my French – but I soon found out that la pastèque is nothing other than watermelon.

A watermelon fragrance. An exciting and rare theme. What other watermelon fragrances come to mind off the top of my head? Ombrella Crash by Jacques Zolty, for example, or Wavechild by Room 1015, Ménage à Trois by Zarkoperfume and Solstice by Andrea Maack, Guiding Water by The Harmonist and Wonder of You by Altaia… Can you think of anything else?

Top notes: juniper berries, pink pepper, lime
Heart notes: watermelon, lavender
Base notes: iris, ambroxan, cedarwood, musk

Cuir de Pastèque is designed to evoke childhood memories. Of sunny summer days, juicy watermelons and those carefree times when anything seemed possible. Does it succeed? The sparkling, spicy notes of juniper berries and pepper set the tone, accompanied by tangy lime. And then it appears: watermelon. Fruity, aquatic, with those airy watery notes that simply smell like summer. It is accompanied by lavender and the two get on well. The tart, herbaceous lavender notes provide additional freshness and prevent the watermelon from evaporating too quickly. In the base, iris lends creamy facets reminiscent of supple, light suede – very subtle and lucid – while ambroxan, musk and cedarwood immerse the finish in a pleasantly soft, feel-good atmosphere.

The eau de parfum by Mezel Paris is a summery, light and airy blend of fruity, aquatic, spicy and powdery-fluffy nuances that will put a smile on your face. Bright, transparent and radiant, Cuir de Pastèque is an ideal companion for the warmer months of the year – minimalist, discreet and quiet.

Menthe Enivrante – mint, tea and ambergris

After the watermelon comes the mint. Mint tea is traditionally drunk in North African countries. It is called atay bi naanaa there and usually consists of green gunpowder tea, fresh nana mint and lots of sugar. It is drunk from small, colorfully decorated tea glasses, into which it is poured from high up in metal pots. Mezel Paris points out that there was a ritual that “was once reserved for the royal palace and certain family circles: mint tea mixed with precious ambergris to deepen its fragrance and presence. A secret tradition that was passed on in silence and inspired Menthe Enivrante.”

We all know what ambergris is naturally made of and where it comes from. For my part, I can do without this kind of tea with a clear conscience, but maybe I’m just a little sensitive. 🤭 In any case, perfumer Julie Massé took on the olfactory realization of this special subject and I’m really looking forward to it.

Top notes: absinthe
Heart notes: mint, violet leaves
Base notes: ambergris, myrrh, benzoin resin, nagarmotha, musk

Menthe Enivrante starts the fragrance in a refreshing and clear way. The absinthe brings an intense coolness reminiscent of aniseed to the creation, which gradually takes on licorice-like traits. The violet leaves soon bring herbaceous, powdery facets to the composition, while the mint evokes very authentic greenish, pungent nuances. The coolness of the opening fades over time and the creation becomes warmer and more profound. Ambergris and myrrh play a key role here, while benzoin resin contributes creamy, bright nuances that are underpinned by earthy nagarmotha.

Menthe Enivrante by Mezel Paris is a fresh, greenish-herbaceous and aromatic-minty eau de parfum with hints of aniseed and licorice and an exciting cold-warm contrast that is soft, airy and masculine. It can also be worn in the cooler months of the year. A fragrance for every occasion and every occasion.
