Melos by pernoire – Cleopatra’s beauty recipe

One of my favorite Swiss fragrance labels is pernoire. I got to know the founders Robin Dünner and Nico Mannino at the fragrance fair in February – two extremely likeable personalities. It was also there that I was able to test the then new fragrance Anelo for the first time. In the meantime, the label has launched another fragrance called Melos. The new composition picks up on an exciting and popular theme: Honey as an olfactory subject.

Honey is indeed a popular ingredient in fragrance compositions, where gourmand nuances are absolutely on trend anyway. Alongside the ubiquitous fruits such as cherry, raspberry, mango and banana, honey has also found its place in the niche fragrance universe. Brands such as Nectar Olfactif are all about the sweet gold of bees, but creations such as Halwa Kiss by OJAR, Nectar by Laboratorio Olfattivo, Honey Oud by Floris, Honey Aoud by Montale and Mad Honey by BORNTOSTANDOUT also pay homage to this wonderful and sensual ingredient.

About pernoire and the Odus Collection

Pernoire is a young Swiss brand that has made a name for itself in the niche perfumery sector in a relatively short space of time. Founded by Robin Dünner and Nico Mannino, pernoire stands for exceptional quality, creative concepts and a clear, unmistakable signature. They create unisex fragrances that are intense, expressive and at the same time absolutely wearable.

The brand is known for its concept of seeing fragrances not just as beautiful accessories, but as olfactory statements. Each fragrance should tell a story, convey a mood and leave a signature. In doing so, pernoire is noticeably modern and bold, but never arbitrary or bold in any way. Robin and Nico are not interested in flashy marketing, but in an authentic, deliberately minimalist presentation that clearly focuses on the composition. If you would like to find out more about pernoire and the label’s philosophy, you can find an exciting conversation with the founders in our articles Interview with pernoire – Swiss fragrance art and Interview with Nico Mannino and Robin Dünner from pernoire – Part II.

Pernoire - Odus Collection - Melos

The philosophy of pernoire is particularly evident in the Odus Collection. The name is derived from “Odor” and “Intensus” and thus refers to the idea of overdosing. Individual fragrance components are deliberately intensified and thus clearly emphasized. The Anelo creation, for example, stands for a radiantly fruity combination of pomelo and pineapple, while Poka olfactorizes gourmand popcorn caramel. The fragrances in the Odus Collection are intense and long-lasting, focus on clarity and quality and embody modern luxury with an unmistakable Swiss signature.

Melos – Scented journey into the realm of Cleopatra

Melos by pernoire not only focuses on honey, but also takes a holistic approach to the beauty ritual of the Egyptian queen Cleopatra. Her grace and gracefulness are just as legendary as the fact that she regularly bathed in donkey’s milk mixed with honey and rose oil. Of course, there is no donkey or goat’s milk in Melos, but instead walnut, grape, grapefruit, blackcurrant, rose, honey, saffron, hazelnut, apple, ambergris, patchouli and musk.

To this day, Cleopatra stands for an idea of beauty that is more than just well-groomed skin. She is staging, power and seduction at the same time. Her cultivated ritual becomes a metaphor for the art of ensnaring the senses and creating an extraordinary aura that still holds an incredible fascination thousands of years later. This is precisely what Melos takes up and transforms into a fragrance that combines modern elegance with an opulent character.

The dark fruit nuances of blackcurrant and grape open Melos and meet spicy, subtly leathery saffron. Lovely, fresh rose notes slowly creep into the composition, while honey also gradually emerges – golden and nectar-sweet. Patchouli adds earthy, woody accents that give the creation additional depth. The gourmand scent of roasted hazelnuts runs gently, creamily and deliciously through Melos. However, the dark spiciness of saffron, the delicately soapy freshness of rose and sweet honey take center stage, combining to create a seductive ensemble.

Melos, inspired by Cleopatra’s legendary beauty ritual, is an exciting mix of spices, flowers, fruits and woods, surrounded by fine honey. Darker, spicier and earthier than expected, this is precisely what makes it so appealing. It evokes images of a sandy desert and dry air, in which soft mineral notes float. Added to this are a very good presence and excellent persistence as clear plus points. Perfect for anyone looking for a special, spicy-floral interpretation of honey that can be worn all year round and for any occasion. Really beautiful!
