Topaz by Kajal breaks through the series of cozy gourmand and spicy fragrances that I have presented to you here in recent weeks, because the eau de parfum is not a typical autumn and winter fragrance. The color – an intense orange tone – may seem autumnal, but the fragrance notes speak a different language. However, Kajal remains true to its line in other respects: once again, the brand is launching an eau de parfum inspired by precious stones. After Almaz, Masa and Ruby, Topaz now follows.
Topaz – clear the stage for the elderflower
Topaz is one of the classic gemstones and is found all over the world, but the most sought-after qualities come from Brazil, Pakistan and Russia. The variety of its natural color nuances is particularly interesting. Although topaz is often colorless, its palette ranges from subtle yellow to intense orange and red tones. Bluish, gray or brownish shades can also be found in nature.
The rarest and most valuable variety is imperial topaz, which shines in warm shades of gold, peach and orange. It is found almost exclusively in Minas Gerais in Brazil and is considered one of the most precious colored gemstones due to its limited occurrence. While many blue, pink or violet topazes only obtain their color through irradiation, the characteristic shade of Imperial topaz is created naturally – through trace elements such as chromium and iron – which makes it gemologically special.
The color of the bottle immediately makes me think of such an Imperial Topaz: warm, orange, with a slight amber shimmer. The creation is dedicated to friendship and love, because according to the label, “one of life’s most precious gifts is the presence of those who choose to walk by our side – soulmates who radiate comfort and quiet strength every day with their human warmth.” Perfumer Vincent Ricord composed the Eau de Parfum Topaz from the ingredients lemon, elderflower, rum, orange blossom, blackcurrant, cedarwood, candied fruit, rose, ambergris, ambroxan, musk and cashmere wood.
What does Topaz by Kajal smell like?
The opening is fruity and fresh and wonderfully translates the color scheme of the bottle olfactorily. Delicate citrus notes meet delicious elderflower – why do we encounter them so rarely in fragrances? That urgently needs to change! -The result is a citrusy-fruity yet floral-creamy melange that is immediately special. Rum provides a subtle liqueur-like background, while the blackcurrant adds dark fruity accents and depth. This state lasts an astonishingly long time, until light, clean woods and powdery, fluffy notes are finally added. The rose tends to remain in the background, but lends the composition a delicate freshness and lightness.
When is the best time to wear Topaz?
Citrusy, fruity elderflower is combined with sunny, clean, woody accents to create a fragrance that is summery on the one hand, but radiates a gentle warmth and soothing comfort on the other. Anyone looking for an eau de parfum that is light, radiant and at the same time comforting, combining fruity, sparkling and delicately ambery facets, should definitely put Topaz on their must-try list. Unisex, with a medium presence and good longevity, this fragrance is ideal for the warmer months of the year – an eau de parfum to enjoy, as special as Imperial Topaz itself.
