Eau D’Esire, water of desire. The name of Gravel ‘s new extrait de parfum sounds like an invitation to dream. In my interview yesterday , perfumer Mirella Pomina described very impressively what this fragrance symbolizes. A kind of “emotional landscape”, an olfactory dialog between longing and clarity, between closeness and distance. I found her inner image of a cool morning by the sea particularly impressive: a horizon, still and full of promise. The longing for summer warmth. It is precisely this inspiration that Eau D’Esire attempts to capture.
In preparation for the interviews on the new Transcendence Collection, I spoke to Christian Blessing on the phone, among others. He provided me with lots of information and exciting details about the fragrances in the recently launched line, and of course we also talked about Eau D’Esire. He told me that the fragrance contains mango – which of course immediately evoked certain associations for me: sweet, intensely tropical fragrances with strong fruit vibes, in the style of some other creations that have conquered the niche fragrance market in recent weeks and months. But Christian immediately waved it off. Gravel’s Mango is completely different. This piqued my interest from the outset, and I’m glad that I can finally satisfy my curiosity today.
Eau D’Esire – Satisfaction and fulfillment
Eau D’Esire by Gravel is intended to be “an olfactory homage to joie de vivre, a thirst for adventure and the pursuit of special moments”. “An invitation to take a deep breath and enjoy the moment.” I gladly accept it. The fragrance notes of the extrait de parfum are bergamot, cypress, saffron, nutmeg, pineapple, mango, violet, hyacinth, cumin, clove leaf, patchouli, ambergris, moss, vetiver and musk. As already mentioned, there is mango in the composition – as well as pineapple and saffron.

From the first sniff, Eau D’Esire envelops me in a fluffy cloud of soft, metallic, cuddly notes. I perceive subtle fruity accents in this mélange that is as fresh as it is molecularly soft. A hint of juicy mango and a splash of sweet pineapple nestle against the soft, elegant and cool accords. I can clearly smell the spicy nuances of saffron in the composition, while the violet provides delicate floral powder facets. The creation becomes somewhat darker as it progresses. Earthy-woody and subtly mossy notes enter the fragrance stage and mix with exotic fruits, saffron and the cuddly accents. They lend the composition a sensual depth that is incredibly calm and relaxed.
For me, the new extrait de parfum from Gravel is not only an exciting variation on the popular fruit theme, but also a modern interpretation of a classic fragrance. Here, aldehydic nuances meet tropical fruits, dark spices and powdery, lucid flowers, rounded off by a woody, earthy and sensual, velvety finish. A clear, molecule-fresh opening is contrasted by a warm, cozy and leathery-mossy finish – in my opinion, an absolutely exciting fragrance beyond the ordinary. Eau D’Esire is very coherent, very harmonious and round. A creation that I personally would not wear to the office or in my free time, but rather in the evening, on special occasions or for a grand entrance.
