When Kris Marciniak from Kinetic Perfumes and Felice di Maio and Timo Daus from Duftbunker began working on a joint fragrance, one thing was clear to all three of them from the outset: it was not to be an off-the-peg fragrance. Instead, it was to be a fragrance that came from a genuine exchange, from conversations about travel, about memories, about sun on skin and laughter in the open air. Two creative worlds united by the same vision. To create a perfume that captures the feeling of an endless summer. This is how Tulua was born, a project close to the hearts of both labels. I was able to get to know the fragrance back in February at Esxence in Milan. A first spray was enough and immediately there was this engaging radiance, this effortless lightness that you only know from vacation memories.
The heart of Tulua: Sfusato Amalfitano
A central component of Tulua is the radiant freshness of the Sfusato Amalfitano, a special variety of lemon that grows exclusively on the Italian Amalfi Coast. It impresses with its elongated shape, bright yellow peel and high content of intensely fragrant essential oils. Botanically, it belongs to the species Citrus limon, but it differs significantly from conventional lemons not only in appearance but also in taste. Its round, balanced aroma is pleasantly mild, almost sweet, with a delicate sweetness and remarkable depth.
It is precisely these characteristics that make the Sfusato Amalfitano not only the preferred base for high-quality limoncello, but also the ideal source of inspiration for the Tulua fragrance. Just like the lemon itself, the fragrance should be multi-layered, lively, sunny and elegant. It symbolizes the dolce vita, the sweet life on the Italian coast. A limoncello in the afternoon sun, the sea breeze on your skin and that indescribable feeling that summer will never end.
Behind the composition of Tulua is the renowned Spanish perfumer Christian Carbonnel, also known as Chris Maurice. A name that stands for many years of experience, special sensitivity and olfactory elegance in niche perfumery. As part of a traditional family of perfumers, Carbonnel combines classic craftsmanship with modern fragrance aesthetics. His compositions are clearly structured, refined and harmonious. They possess sensuality, depth and character. For Tulua by Kinetic Perfumes, he combined the ingredients lemon, bergamot, mandarin, gourmand notes, cream, magnolia, jasmine, ambergris, cedarwood and vetiver.
A delicate citrus freshness floats through the opening of Tulua, gentle, very harmonious and balanced. It is soon joined by creamy, soft nuances that are comforting and inviting. Like a fine lemon cream, reminiscent of warm, dreamy afternoons. You can feel the light-heartedness of a moment when you are simply lying in a hammock and indulging in sweet idleness. A subtle hint of clean, floral notes evokes associations with the azure blue sea, the gentle sound of the waves and the sky, over which white clouds drift leisurely.
Tulua is a fragrance like a vacation day on the Amalfi Coast. Airy, light, sunny. A pleasant, summery extrait de parfum suitable for everyday use with a medium presence and just as long-lasting, conveying Mediterranean vibes in the most wonderful way. The magic of a fragrant, creamy lemon cream, bedded on the finest flowers and clean woods, warmed by sunny, velvety ambergris. An extremely successful collaboration between Kinetic Perfumes and Duftbunker that makes you want to create more together!
