A hint of midnight, a whisper of the forest, a ray of liquid moonlight – the new fragrance Flux<\/a> by Andrea Maack<\/a> combines all of this. The Icelandic artist and fragrance visionary takes us into the mysterious world of Big Sur with her latest creation. Flux is not meant to be a perfume like any other – it is an experience, a nocturnal walk through ancient forests bathed in silver light. Andrea Maack’s inspiration for the fragrance did not come from her native Iceland as usual, but from the American west coast around the legendary coastal region of Big Sur. <\/p>\n\n\n

Big <\/strong>Sur \u2014 the name itself sounds like poetry. A wild, almost magical stretch of coastline between San Francisco and Los Angeles, where Highway 1 clings dramatically to steep cliffs and the Pacific shimmers in the sun like a sea of crystals. Here, deep crimson sunsets meet fog-draped forests, ancient redwoods rise like cathedrals from the earth, and the crashing of the waves blends with the wind in the treetops to create a melody all its own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Artists, dreamers, and escapists have long sought refuge in Big Sur. The American writer Henry Miller once called it his “magical domain.” Even today, the place feels otherworldly, almost untouched by time. There are no big cities, no hectic pace\u2014just endless nature, enchanted hiking trails, and cozy lodges with ocean views.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At night, Big Sur wraps itself in moonlight and mystery. The air smells of forest, salt, and freedom\u2014and it\u2019s precisely this magic that creative minds aim to capture in music, literature, and\u2014in the case of Andrea Maack\u2019s Flux<\/em>\u2014the art of fine fragrance. This extrait de parfum was composed by perfumer C\u00e9line Barel, who brought together cardamom, menthol, blueberry, eucalyptus, cypress, fir, labdanum (rock rose), cedarwood, redwood<\/strong> and cashmeran<\/strong> to create its scent.<\/p>\n\n\n

Deep blue and intense – that\u2019s how I perceive the blueberries in the opening of Flux. And no, we\u2019re not talking about the bland supermarket kind. Flux – which, by the way, means \u201cflow\u201d – smells like the tart sweetness of wild blueberries growing on bushes deep in the forest. Speaking of forests: that\u2019s exactly what else I detect in this creation. Bright, aromatic coniferous woods blend with the cool, green freshness of menthol and eucalyptus, subtly accompanied by salty, marine nuances. I picture misty forests at night. Towering evergreens touched by silver moonlight. The ground soft with moss, scattered with large stones. In the distance, the ocean\u2019s murmur adds an extra layer of enchantment to the mystical woodland atmosphere. As the scent evolves, it flows into a powdery, elusive, comforting softness that adds even more mystery to its character.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flux by Andrea Maack is a gentle, delicate, and transparent blend of wild blueberries, clean-aromatic pine woods, and a masterfully orchestrated marine-mentholic freshness, rounded off with an airy, powdery finish. A fascinating composition, no doubt – one that\u2019s sure to appeal to those who love quiet, understated yet expressive fragrances with woody-cool and forest-like facets. If you\u2019re a blueberry-in-perfume lover, you\u2019re already on board. Flux is unisex, office-friendly, and easy to wear every day. A Nordic-inspired, cool-minimalist homage to the breathtaking coastline of Big Sur – for me, perhaps not love at first sniff, but definitely at second.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
